Home-Start East Suffolk (formerly Home-Start Suffolk Coastal) has commissioned Steve Allman to undertook a number of assignments, both as an independent scheme and also as part of the Home-Start Suffolk Consortium:

Income Generation Workshop | February 2015
Steve was commissioned by Home-Start East Suffolk to deliver a workshop on income generation and social enterprise. The workshop gave an overview of social enterprise, with real examples, then Steve supported staff and trustees to identify and evaluate potential products and services that may help the charity generate income. Diane Milan, Chair, said of the workshop:

“Steve supported us through a process of identifying and evaluating potential methods of generating income. It was useful to be exposed to these techniques, which will be of use in selecting an income generation option in future. The workshop content was very good, Steve was able to share a lot of expertise in one morning and we now have the means to take our ideas forward.”

Home Start East Suffolk commissioned Steve Allman to evaluate their Empowering Families project, which helps families improve confidence, access community services, improve family relationships and increase income. 36 families and 34 volunteers shared how the project had impacted in their lives and the report highlighted impact and identified potential challenges. Tara Somers, Scheme Manager,shares her experience of working with Steve:

“From my very first conversation with Steve, I knew he was exactly the right man for the job! As Steve outlined how he would design the evaluation around the voice of our families and volunteers his own experience of working with families shone through and I sensed he would relate to our families without them feeling like case studies or research subjects.

Steve followed up our chat with an informal meeting and his personality and professionalism put us at ease in the knowledge that he would be able to effectively represent the views of our families, staff and volunteers and, very importantly, be able to feed that back to us simply and effectively. The evaluation proposal he provided outlined two options and left it for us to decide whether to proceed without any hint of obligation. We opted for the larger sample size and Steve provided a project plan with dates and milestones, then quite simply got on with the job; making sure to keep me updated on how things were going.

We are so pleased with the final report and I’ve already lost count of the number of times we’ve asked ourselves how we ever got by without this evaluation! It explains the impact of the project in plain English and Steve has asked all the right questions, raised some interesting challenges and made some realistic recommendations. I have no hesitation in recommending Steve Allman to other charities who need an external evaluation.”
