Home-Start West Berkshire commissioned Steve Allman to undertake an Organisational Strengths Review of the charity, which supports families with young children struggling with a range of issues including mental health, isolation and low self-esteem.
The Organisational Strengths Review was funded by a Building Capabilities grant from the Big Lottery Fund, a special award intended to help charities receiving Big Lottery Fund grants to identify their key strengths, areas for improvement, potential opportunities for sustainability and potential next steps.
Steve Allman has developed a unique approach to Organisational Strengths Reviews specifically with Home-Start schemes in mind, based on our support to over twenty other Home-Start schemes around the UK.
Steve Allman delivered workshops to Home-Start West Berkshire trustees, staff and volunteers to gain their views and engaged a number of external partners, including commissioners, funders and referrers.
Those engaged in the Organisational Strengths Review shared some great ideas for improving Home-Start West Berkshire’s offer to local families and increasing the sustainability of the charity. These were researched in a little more detail within the final report and presented along with recommendations and potential next steps.
Lynne Doherty, Scheme Manager, shares her experience of working with Steve Allman on their Organisational Strengths Review:
“It has been a pleasure to work with Steve. He clearly understands the Home-Start model, this has meant we have been able to go straight to the required piece of work without having to use our time together going through what we actually do.
Steve worked effectively with all stakeholders to produce a fair and accurate picture of our work. I believe one of his key strengths is his independent neutral view. I would not hesitate to recommend him and his approach to other Home-Start schemes.”
